Happy Memorial Day!

Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday weekend!  Today, I am doing absolutely nothing.  After a weekend of landscaping, I am so sore that I feel like I can't even walk up a flight of stairs.  Saturday we worked from 7:30 am until 9pm, and didn't nearly finish our front yard - our front yard is TINY, so we figured it would take no time at all, and one day would be more than enough.  Not so much.  Sunday morning we had to get up and finish, even though every inch of my body was sore.  We suffered through it, and FINALLY finished.  Today, even my inner thighs are sore.  Who knew that was even an area that could get sore!  Apparently I'm super out of shape.  So this wasn't really the way we wanted to spend our holiday weekend, but with all of my weddings coming up, the next weekend  we'd be able to do it wasn't until August....so Memorial Day weekend it was!

At least one part of the weekend was awesome - we finally got a grill, and got to try it out for the first time.  Jay is pretty much in heaven.  I love this picture of him - it's just so "him" in his element: a new grill, Steelers burger flipper (with a bottle opener on the end....he says that's the best part), and Grill Meister apron.  He made me promise I wouldn't put pictures of him wearing an apron on the blog.  Sorry Jay, I just had to:)

Jay = Grill Meister.

Jay, doin' his thang, loving life:)

Hope everyone had a great, RELAXING, weekend:)

Haha, that first pic of Jay is awesome…. and so glad he wore the apron I got him! Priceless!

I love that you “promised” him you wouldn’t show it on the blog and then did anyways. I do that to Allen all of the time! :)

That’s a nice grill…and chef and apron! I hear ‘cookout’ in the near future too Jaime :)

Joan - June 1, 2010 - 7:09 pm

I love the Grill Meister apron! It looks like Jay was really into the whole grilling experience. Anytime you want to cookout and need guests, let me know!

Jaime - June 1, 2010 - 10:02 am

Grill Meister? Oh boy…haha Well now that you have a grill, it looks like I’ll have to come over for a cookout :)

The grill is def. a guy thing…Rob has an apron that says Grill Daddy! haha. Can’t wait to see what you guys did with your yard!!

I think we make our neighbors nervous….

Jay and I live on a tiny little street.  It's a side street of a side street of a side street, so there isn't much action on our short little road.  So I guess I shouldn't have been surprised that when Jay and I started doing some landscaping, we'd be the talk of the street and everyone started conveniently "taking walks" to see what we were doing.  Most of our neighbors have been living on our street for more than 20 years, just to give you an "idea" about the average age range:)

Our front yard was pretty much a mish-mosh of random plants and bushes everywhere, so we pulled everything out and we're starting over......I forgot to take "before" pictures - I always forget about that!  Anywho, we probably should have come up with a plan for what we want to plant in its place before we pulled everything out, but this is pretty much how the scene looked:  Jay and I, working outside pulling/chopping/cutting everything up for about 5 hours (with neighbors coming up to us making comments like "that's, uh, ambitious" throughout), then we stood back, looked at our blank yard and said, "k, now what?"

So that's what our Memorial Day weekend will probably look like - lots of planting and trips to Home Depot - so we can calm our neighbors nerves about all of the "craziness" that's going on at our house:)

These fun pink guys are the only things that are left in our little yard - they were just too pretty I couldn't pull them out!

Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend!

I can see this picture framed in apartment 903! It’s fabulous!

Good luck with your gardening! I agree with Mary, visit the local garden shops. You’ll be happier with your purchases and you get more personal service. Those peonies are beautiful! I hope you kept the hydrangeas too! (They were by the side of your porch, right?)

Mary - May 28, 2010 - 9:33 am

I covet your fence, btw

Mary - May 28, 2010 - 9:33 am

If I found out you trashed those peonies, I would be trash pickin! And please support local garden centers, not Home Depot! There are a bunch of great ones near you and the quality is so much better! Lots will be having sales this weekend too. What about the hydrangea, did you take that out too??

Sarah - May 27, 2010 - 5:39 pm

I love peonies! Can’t wait to see the finished product :)

Vikas and Tara’s Wedding

I discovered something this weekend:  I love Indian weddings.  The music, the clothes, the food.....everything about it is just plain awesome.  And the 5 hour nap in the middle of the day, between the ceremony and reception?  Haven't done that since college, and it was amazing:)  This weekend Jay and I headed down to Virginia for his friend Vikas' wedding.  It was the first Indian wedding I have ever been to, so I wasn't sure quite what to expect - but MAN did I have a blast....loved everything about it!  It made me want to play Indian music at my own wedding.  And have Vikas' friends dance at my wedding.  Who knew Indian guys are such AWESOME dancers???  I loved watching them dance!

I was having such a good time, and was in need of a break from work in a bad way, so I took barely any pictures the entire weekend - I did manage to grab a couple shots of Vikas during the Barat, but that's about it!

What a great guy - seriously, one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

I didn't even get a SINGLE picture of the bride!  I stole this picture from my friend Ashley - hope you don't mind Ash!  I am just in LOVE with their expressions in this picture - doesn't Tara look like an Indian Barbie??

Vikas and Tara - thanks for having us!  Your wedding was full of so much love, I had SO MUCH fun!

Side Note:  Jay has a group of 7 guy friends from high school, and ever since their teen year's they've called themselves the DNB.  Vikas is one of the members of DNB (don't even bother asking what it stands for, they won't tell anyone).  Apparently the only thing Vikas asked for at his wedding was for the DNB to dance to "Like a Prayer" by Madonna.  And that they did.  I was front and center, with my Flip Video camera in hand, and caught the whole thing - I've been watching it on repeat, and laugh so hard my stomach hurts every.single.time.  I think all of the Indian guests referred to their performance as "the white guy dance" because none of them were on the same step at the same time - at one point one of Jay's friends actually pushed him out of his "dance space", as Jay stepped on his foot....I am dying to post it here, but I feel like Jay might disown me if I do that.....so keep your eye out on Facebook, I'm sure a copy or two *might* just leak out:)

Sarah M. - May 25, 2010 - 3:55 pm

Tina-that is hilarious about DNB there was a group of guys in my high school that nicknamed themselves the NAC. But always denied it’s existence! LOL.

Amanda - May 24, 2010 - 10:41 pm

Isn’t it so nice to just go and enjoy a beautiful wedding as a guest? I’ve done it two weekends in a row and loved every minute :)

Jess - May 24, 2010 - 9:51 pm

Wow she is gorgeous! It looks like such a fun wedding!
