2010: A Year in Review

I always love looking at other photographers' favorite wedding/engagement/portrait images of the year - it's always fun to recap and reflect over the year that just passed.  I was fully intending on doing the same, but as I was looking through all of my posts throughout the past year, it made me stop to realize what a HUGE year this has been for me.  So instead of favorite images from 2010, I decided to sum up what an amazing/crazy/unexpected year it's been for me.  So here we go, these are the top 5 BIGGEST things that happened for me in 2010:

#1 - Quit the day job:

Back in September I left  my day job in accounting for good, and it couldn't have happened at a better time.  My fall was CRAZY busy with shoots and weddings, and I kept telling myself over and over that I made the right decision, and left my job at the perfect time. Sometimes it still doesn't feel real, but it's been a great ride so far:)

New Website Launch:

For anyone who has ever launched a website, you KNOW how much work/time/planning goes into launching a new website.  This had been in the works for a long time coming, so this was HUGE when I could finally launch the new site.....it was a very accomplished feeling for me:)

My OWN Wedding!:

Well it's safe to say this was the absolute BIGGEST event  for me in 2010 - Jay and I were finally married on 10.2.10, and it was the best day ever.  Now that we're rounding on our 3 month anniversary, we keep saying we can't believe we're finally married - but I love it!

I'm going to be an Aunt!

I think it's become blatantly obvious now that I'm totally over-involving myself in my sister's pregnancy - but this is also DEFINITELY one of the biggest happenings in my life this year! I'm so excited to be an aunt, and it's been amazing to watch my sister grow over these nine months.  She's my best friend in the whole world, and I'm just so excited for her and Mike, and so excited for this new little girl to get here.  Although I'm hoping and praying she stays put until I can get down to North Carolina on the 16th!!

Our new pup:

And then they're little Miss Holly Heinnickel.  She just barely made it into our lives in 2010 - we've had her for about 2 weeks now, and it's going great.  There were a few rough days in the beginning (more on that later), but now that we've gotten into a routine it's going really well.  She's such a cutie, and I wish she would stay this size forever! I love that face!

So there you have it - the 5 biggest things that happened to me throughout 2010.  It's absolutely going to be a year to remember, after reflecting on all of these huge events that took place.  It was so fun looking back throughout this past year - but for as fun as it was looking back, it made me SO excited for 2011, and what lies ahead.  I'm excited to sit down, write a list of goals for myself, and get some of my new ideas accomplished.  Hope everyone enjoys their new year, cheers to 2011!!

I love your year in review! It sure was a big year for you, and it was so sweet of you to include our soon-to-be baby in there!! You are my BFF too and I can’t wait for you to come down in 2 weeks!

You sure did have a big year Tina! You doing a wonderful job and I’m so proud of you! New year may be boring compared to this last one! But it will start out huge with your new niece coming into the world! I hope she waits for you too!

I love all the year-end reflections too! My goodness you have had a busy year! Getting married is huge, but I’m so proud of you for stepping out on your day job and following your dreams. It takes a lot of guts and you’re doing great! All the best in 2011 :)

Where’s Holly?

Yesterday Jay and I were snowed in from the blizzard that swept through Philly (I love when he gets to work from home!) - this is the first time it snowed since I quit the day job, and it was great not having to worry about how I was going to make the hour commute to work.  That was the PITS last year when we had a snow storm what seemed like every other week.  Anywho, we figured we'd take Holly out to play in the snow to see what she thought - she loved it!  This picture made me laugh as soon as I saw it - it's like a Where's Waldo picture.....you can hardly see her!  We got about a foot of snow so it was taller than her, and she'd just sink immediately in the snow:

But she is best friends with Jay and follows him wherever he goes, so he ran through all the snow drifts and she would prance in his footsteps behind him:)

I think it's safe to say she had a good time....she was covered in snow from head to toe!

We didn't stay out very long because I was afraid she was too cold, so when we went inside I looked into buying puppy boots and puppy winter coats.  Jay promptly nixed that idea.  Dang.

These are the cutest pictures ever! I’m glad I got to meet Holly last week, even though it was a quick visit. She does have the cutest face!

The next time Holly is driving you bananas, just look at that first photo of her. It’s so much cuteness I can hardly stand it!

My little goldendoodle loves the snow too – but when its packing snow – it sticks to her fur in little tiny snowballs! Hope you guys dug out from the storm!

Awwww, I love her already! (And I have to agree with Jay…she doesn’t need winter gear. She has a permanent coat! Haha!)

So sweet!

Christmas, NYC Style

Nothing makes you feel more in the Christmas spirit than visiting NYC during Christmas time.  Last week my friends Jaime, Karen and I headed up to NYC for the day to do all things touristy, and take in all the Christmas-y goodness that the city has to offer.  I, of course, decided I'd document every part of our day (they were LOVING my camera by the end of the day;)  Although I have a bunch of friends that live right in Manhattan, I haven't been to NYC during Christmas since I was a little kid and can hardly remember it, so I was SUPER excited for our trip.....and it did not disappoint.  Such a fun day, I highly recommend that everyone do it at least once in their life:)

First stop as soon as we stepped off the bus? Starbucks.  It was FREEZING that day (I think the high was 26 degrees), so this was a must.  Jaime wanted to whip out her Starbucks locator on her iPhone, until we realized there is a Starbucks every 5 feet.  Literally.

Me and my FAB second shooter, Jaime:)

We couldn't stop laughing at this tiny cup with it's mini handles - this is her "large" macchiato:

One of the things I was looking forward to the most?  All of the Christmas window displays - I took tonnnnns of shots of window displays, the bottom three are my favorite:)

One of the only shots of the four of us from the day - oh, that's not a random guy in the shot....our friend Brandon lives in Brooklyn and hung out with us for the afternoon:)

Next up? Radio City Music Hall to see the Rockettes - now THAT puts you in the Christmas spirit.  I thought I might get bored at this show, but it was awesome - those dancers really amazed me.

I thought of my friend Sam when I saw this star - it's covered completely in Swarovski crystals.....Sam loves everything Swarovski:)

This tree really is amazing to see in person.  My only advice?  Don't go look at it during the day.....we saw it first during the day and thought "is that it?" - then we went back at night, and it's a whooooole different feeling when it's all lit up:)

We ended our night walking past the Macy's "believe" sign - it was a great way to end our night, and it's one of my favorite shots of our day trip:

Ahhh such a fun day, and really put me in the Christmas spirit - I can't wait to go again next year!  I hope everyone enjoys their Christmas weekend, I'll be back to blogging next week!
