Ever since I got home from WPPI (a photography conference in Vegas), I've been working through business goals that I've had on my to-do list for a long time, plus new goals I formed when I was out there. As I work through everything, I can't help thinking about the very first photography workshop I ever attended, out in Arizona -
This was hands down one of the best investments I ever made in my business - if there is one workshop I'd recommend to any photographer, it would be this one. At the time I went to the workshop, I was just starting out in my business. When you're starting out (heck, even when you have a stable business built), there is SO MUCH to think about. I had a to-do list that was a mile long, and I kept jumping all over the place from one item to the next, never focusing fully on one thing. One minute I would be all "I need to shoot more, I need to book more clients!", then the next minute it was "I need to learn SEO, and optimize my website NOW!", then I'd move right into "I need to learn a new software program, so I can design cool marketing materials!"......and I would jump around from one huge project to the next, with no clear direction, and obviously not focusing too fully on any one thing.
That's where Melissa came in. Let me just say, that she is the best. She is such a super nice, genuine person. And real - I love that about her:) If you think her blog is helpful, just wait until you hear what she has to offer at the workshop. I went to her workshop, and it was like a weight off of my shoulders. She was an open book, sharing anything and everything you could imagine about her own photography business. She broke down everything you need to know and do, and put it in very real, attainable terms - in a way that made you feel like "hey, I can do this!". She taught us about her shooting techniques, post processing skills, album design, and all things business related. You name it, she taught it. It was the BEST feeling ever flying home from the workshop with a plan, and feeling totally confident in myself, knowing I can do it:)
But even putting everything you learn at her workshop aside, one of the most valuable parts for me was the relationships I made there. I still keep in contact with a hand full of the girls from the workshop, and I have formed some really close friendships, all thanks to Melissa's workshop - that is another huge benefit of attending the MJ 2 Day:)
Lots of people have asked me if the investment is worth it.
My answer? HECK YES. I know how it feels - it can be daunting shelling out that much cash in one shot, not necessarily knowing how much you're going to get out of it. But trust me, if you attend her workshop, you'll agree that it's worth every single dime.
