2011 Self Portrait Review

I initially got the idea to start taking monthly self portraits from my good friend Gail - she started the project herself in 2010, and when she blogged about her entire year of self portraits, I was hooked. I thought about how awesome it would be to go back and look at each month of photos, and remember what your life was like over the past year.  So I decided to start right then in there, making 2011 my first year of self portraits.

Some months were tougher than others....I'll be honest, sometimes the end of the month would be creeping closer and closer and I'd think - "what the heck did I even do this month, besides sit at my desk and work??" I always managed to pull it off (although some times a few days late), but I'm so glad I did. As I made the photo compilation below, I couldn't even remember what my self portrait was in the first half of the year. It was SO fun going back and looking through all the photos, it reminds me how much I've done in the last year.

Here are all of my self portraits from 2011, in order, left to right:)

January: A Month Full of Baby

February: Cooking Escapades

March: Energized in the City

April: Living in Chaos

May: Stuck in Kitchen Mode

June: Summer Love

July: Stressed Yet Happy

August: California Love

September: Getting Back Into It

October: The Hair Gods Answered My Prayers

November: Christmas Love

December: A Trifecta of Loves

I loved looking back at each of my photos, I think everyone should do this project for themselves! Especially moms who NEVER have photos of them alone. It's a fun way to reminisce on the past year:) I'll be posting my January self portrait soon!

(Disclaimer - my October portrait (bottom left) was taken by my sister. Not sure why, but it totally slipped my mind that in a SELF portrait I had to take the photo MYSELF. I'm pretty sure Addy was screaming and it was time for a nap or something, so we snapped them really quickly:) Woops!)

So proud of you for making it through the year. I hate that I flaked. I’m back in on various photo “projects” for 2012, but no big promises yet :)

This is a really great idea, and especially fun looking back on them! Hmmmmm should I jump on board? I might :)

Love this so much! I’m totally going to take your advice and take you up on the challenge…. what the heck, I’m tackling so much other stuff I think I’m game… maybe. :) I am absolutely IN LOVE with how yours turned out. And, since one of my goals was more personal pictures, hey! It works!

YEAH for you for sticking with it, Tina! I love looking back at these (and can remember every one!) Don’t worry, Nick took two of mine this year (I’ve loosened my standards a smidge).

And like you, I struggle in certain months too. BUT, I think these are the months that remind us that we need to focus on “living” our lives, you know? I find that totally inspiring and it’s a huge influence for me in this project.
